Farm to Family Coupon Program - 2010
There are two main goals of the Farm to Family Program. The first is to increase the consumption of fresh vegetables and fruits by nutritionally at risk people. The second is to increase consumer use of Farmers’ Markets.
The program begins near the end of June and ends on the last day of the market when the coupons expire. Vermont Farm to Family Program is funded both by the state and Federal governments.
Income eligible Vermonters receive coupons redeemable for fresh produce sold by growers at participating markets. Each recipient gets one coupon booklet worth $30.00. A market must have at least three produce vendors on a steady basis to be part of the Farm to Family Program. There are 3 categories of coupon recipients:
1. WIC – supplemental nutrition program for women, infants, & children.
2. Income eligible elderly households
3. Other low income households.
Ten RCFM vendors participated in the program during the 2009 season. RCFM coupon redemptions totaled $5,823. This year the Farm to Family program was coordinated by Stephen Chamberlain and Judy Dark.
Special thanks to Mary Carlson for helping us through the training process, once again. We thank May and her staff for their conscientious efforts that have made
the Farm to Family Program a success year after year.
